Hankøsundet is one of the most beautiful and atmospheric straits in the Oslo Fjord – a narrow sea course between the mainland at Onsøy and the island of Hankø. It's a place that feels very "southern", even if you're still in Østfold: White summer cottages, old boathouses, sailboats gliding quietly past and rocks shining warmly in the evening sun. Bloksberg – the old summer residence that for many decades was closely linked to the Norwegian royal family. A little discreet, a little elegant, close to the sea and with a strong sailing tradition. Bloksberg is sheltered on the island and became particularly famous because King Olav used the place as a base during sailing and summer stays on Hankø.

SON

Son is actually one of the most popular and atmospheric harbours for boaters in the entire inner Oslofjord. Many people refer to Son as the perfect mix of small coastal town, summer idyll, vibrant harbor, good restaurants, sailing environment and quiet archipelago atmosphere. The great thing about Son is that you dock almost right in the center. When the masts clink in the wind, people sit on the edge of the pier with white wine or shrimps, and the light turns golden over the old wooden houses — then Son is about as close to classic Oslofjord summer as you get.

PAPPER, Hvaler

Papper is a small archipelago and an area at the far end of Hvaler in the Outer Oslofjord – known for bare rocks, old fishing harbours, small lighthouses and a rather distinctive coastal landscape. Many people associate Papper with the iconic red boathouse in Papperhavn, which is among the most photographed motifs at Hvaler. Fredagshølet is perhaps the most legendary natural harbour on Hvaler – a narrow, sheltered and almost hidden bay at the far end of Papperøyene and Seilø. For many boaters in Eastern Norway, the place is almost iconic: A place to seek shelter when it is windy out on the fjord, or to lie down for the summer night with rocks, barbecues and evening sun.

Tønsberg

Tønsberg in the summer is actually one of the best boating destinations in the entire Oslo Fjord. Not only because the city is nice, but because you get the whole combination: Vibrant pier life, archipelago and natural harbours and a very social boating environment For many, this is the "Norwegian summer" itself: salty skin, warm rocks, sailboats in the evening sun and restaurants full of people in shorts and sailing shoes.

BOLÆRNE, Vestfold

Bolærne, Vestfold

Bolærne is one of those places in the Oslo Fjord that feels a little bigger than just an archipelago. When you get out there, you get the feeling of being far out to sea – even though you are not really that far from Tønsberg and Nøtterøy. On Østre Bolærne, people walk barefoot between the rocks in the summer, children fish for crabs from the piers, and sailboats lie close to the harbor on warm July evenings. The actual trip by boat through the archipelago is a big part of the experience. In fact, many describe the arrival as one of the most beautiful things in the archipelago in the Oslo Fjord. Large parts of the island were formerly military areas, and many people find the contrast between heavy defense history and peaceful archipelago fascinating. Here you can see old gun emplacements, bunkers, ammunition rooms, observation posts and tunnels inside the mountain. At the guest harbor at Østre Bolæren is Kompasset Café and restaurant, which also has its own outdoor terrace where you can enjoy a good meal in the sun and sea air.
